Two articles were recently published in peer-review journals reflecting the outcome of nutritionDay data collected in Nursing Homes from 2007 to 2014:
1) Who receives oral nutritional supplements in nursing homes? Results from the nutritionDay project – Streicher, Melanie et al. – Clinical Nutrition, (Published online: September 16, 2016).
This study found that nursing home staff play a key role for the use of Oral Nutritional Supplements (ONS); only 30% of dysphagic residents received ONS; and that there is a high discrepancy amongst countries in the use of ONS.

2) nutritionDay in Nursing Homes – The Association of Nutritional Intake and Nutritional Interventions With 6-Month Mortality in Malnourished Residents – Streicher, Melanie et al. – Journal of the American Medical Directors Association (Volume 18, Issue 2, 162 – 168).
This study confirmed that low nutritional intake and nutritional status, mobility, dysphagia, cancer and age are associated with a higher risk of mortality among nursing home residents. Also 46% of the malnourished residents did not receive any nutritional intervention.
